GE24: Comparing party promises on immigration

Six months ago housing and immigration were the big issues voters were noticing, according to an Irish Times/Ipsos B&A Snapshot poll. That was then.
As the general election campaign passes its midpoint, canvassers on the doorsteps are hearing more about housing, cost of living and health services than they are about immigration.
That’s not to say it isn’t an issue for the electorate and one that has featured in detailed plans by each of the parties.
So what are the promises and plans being unveiled in the various manifestos. And what about far-right candidates for whom immigration is often their single issue? Do they have any chance of winning a Dáil seat?
Political correspondent Jack Horgan Jones assesses the promises.
